Well I guess I should get this things started seeing I created it right???? Well right now I am in Japan, so I don't know what is going on for things *japan related* in Boston, but I can start off with a link that provides occasional events etc.

The Japan Society of Boston sponsors a lot of Japan related events in the boston area, and though they have not had a kirakuna event in a long time. They do post some interesting events on their website, and if you become a member you get a monthly newsletter that usually has all their events. They don't always make it to the website for some strange reason. ganbate..... off to bed. I have too much studying to do......

Boston-area meetup announcement!

let me apologize beforehand for the crosspost. ^^;

I may have announced this here before, but we'd like to organize a meetup of people interested in J-fashion (lolita, decora, visual kei, et cetera) in the Boston area, probably during the week of April 21. this is the week after both Easter Sunday and the first-ever Anime Boston.

in December, we had a mildly successful meetup in Cambridge (pictures can be found here), but it would be nice to try it again with a few more people, and with more specific plans, just to make it a bit less awkward. I'm thinking in a park somewhere (maybe a picnic, if it's nice?). I must confess, though, that I don't know the Boston area too well. T-accesibility is a plus. any ideas would be very much appreciated.

if you're even vaguely interested, please leave a comment or e-mail me. if there are enough people expressing interest, I will create a community to accomodate people from New England interested in J-fashion... if there isn't one already... I'll have to check on that.

thanks for your time, and again I'll apologize for the cross-posting. X}

sorry about the crossposting again-- this is the last time, I swear! ^^;

I've just created a community for J-fashion addicts in New England. it's called jfash_in_ne. if you're one of the people interested in a Boston meetup, or you're simply a J-fashion fan who lives in the area, please join!

thank you very much! ^_^

So.... I'm working for a real estate agency this summer, and my boss has offered me a finder's fee if I can get anybody to rent a 4 bedroom apartment on Gardner Street in Allston. Now, i'm going to post the litte ad-blurb that I wrote for the apartments, but before I do that I want to tell all of you that I'm not BS'ing any of this - I went to see one of these apartments on Friday afternoon, and I can honestly say that I started thinking about finding two other people to live with Sarah and I so that *we* could rent one of them. They're that awesome. So if you're interested, give East Coast Realty a call [their number is in the ad below] - they're in a tight spot with these units and really need to rent them. Thanks!

((BEGIN ADVERT))

4 Bedroom apartments in Allston, MA

Just steps away from Boston University's West Campus and blocks from the bars, abnds and bustle of Harvard Avenue, Brighton Avenue, and Commonwealth Avenue, these great four bedroom apartments offer a little bit of home in the city. Building is a five minute walk to the Super Stop&Shop, and only a 3 minute walk to Super 88. Surrounded by excellent food - Chinese, Sushi, Pizza, Subs, Sandwiches - everything a college student could ever want.

With high ceilings (over 12 feet), hardwood floors, full-size windows and sturdy walls, the size of these apartments becomes apparent as soon as you walk through the front door. Each unit has four bedrooms and two bathrooms - giving you (and three of your friends) plenty of space to get comfortable. The bathrooms and kitchens are big and modern, with clean lines and plenty of space to cook a big meal and avoid the morning bathroom rush.

Topping it all off, each unit has a spacious living room, giving you and your roommates plenty of room for a big sofa or several large chairs, with room left over for that big screen TV you've got [or want].

All this for only $2500/month. NO FEE!

Call 617-739-2211 today to see these apartment before they're gone! Be sure and mention that you saw Mike's ad!

Harro harro !! *waves* What can I say? I moved from Puerto Rico to Boston about...3 weeks ago ^^; So far I love it honestly :3 I've been interested in japanese culture for about 9 years now. I absolutely love jrock and Visual kei music. my fave band is Plastic Tree. I also lvoe other bands such as MUCC, Deg, Kagerou, Moi Dix Mois, GLAY, Asian Kung Fu generations and way too many others to list XD I'm also into EGL fashion and fruIts fashion as well. Hmm, I was wondering if there's anywhere in Boston to get a hold of any Jrock goods? The only place I've been able to find so far is Kotobukiya down in Porter Exchange. I've been able to buy some Japanese music mags there and of course eating at Cafe Mami and Tampopo was great :D. But is there anywhere else? I live riiiight between some of Berklee College of Music's buildings. is there anywhere near here? Thanks in advance <333

Wow, so create a community, and don't pay any attention to it, and without knowing it 21 people join. Excellent, my plan to take ove.. uh nevermind..

Anyway, A bit about me. I'm James, I will be your moderator this evening(well and every evening I guess). I, as I'm sure many of you are; am a nippon-phile. I have been to Japan 4 times, once I stayed for 3 months. I absolutely love it there. The country is quite amazing.

Now that there actually seems to be some membership to the community one of the things I would like to do in the possible future is start having gatherings, dinner at Japanese restaurants where we can attempt to practice speaking Japanese with one another, or fieldtrips to the kendal to watch the latest Anime featured film. Ideas are welcome.

Does anyone know of any festivals going on? The Japan Society of Boston seems to have 3 Japan related events listed on their home page. Check it out, they may interest you. Are there and JSB members here? I'd be interested in your opinions of the organization. I use to be a member but they stopped having the Kirakuna(casual) events, so I didn't think that renewing my membership was worth it.

Nice to see all the visual-k folks had fun in Porter. Looked like a good time. Thanks for including the members of this community in your invite.

Anyway, 2am, time for bed. じゃまた おやすみ

Hello darlings! I’m currently working with Tofu Records in promoting Nana Kitade’s concert @ The Virgin Mega Store in Boston, MA. You can find more details behind the cut.

Nana Kitade LIVE! @ The Virgin Mega Store, Boston, MA August 8th at 7:00 pm

Nana Kitade will be giving a live concert performance @ The Virgin Mega Store in Boston, MA on August 8th at 7:00 pm. There will not only be a concert, but autograph signings AND a tea party! Dressing in Gothic and Lolita fashion is GREATLY ENCOURAGED.

A guitar-strumming girl wonder, 18-year-old Nana Kitade represents a new breed of female rock star, equally admired for her musical ability and recognized for her unique fashion sense.
As a child, Nana Kitade was determined to be a singer, devoting herself to the piano at age 3, writing lyrics at 12, and picking up the guitar by her 14th birthday. Upon graduating junior high, her passion for singing took Nana to Tokyo.
Her lucky break came in 2002 when she was discovered at an audition for Sony Music. In October of the following year, she made her sensational debut with the single “Indelible Sin - Kesenai Tsumi,” chosen as the ending theme song for the popular TV anime series Fullmetal Alchemist. With her songs popping up in numerous TV dramas, animation, and video games, Nana was able to reach new audiences and score four top-selling singles. Finally in August 2005, she released her highly anticipated first album, 18 - eighteen.
Nana boasts a natural ability to put her experiences and inner conflicts into powerful music and lyrics. Combined with her incredible stage presence, it’s almost impossible not to take notice of Nana. Famous for her signature “Gothic Lolita” look, Nana has become a fashion icon for teenage girls. Her face adorns the covers of countless fashion magazines, and the streets of Harajuku overflow with Nana wannabes dressed in her elaborate style of corsets, ruffles, and lace.
With her talent, charm, and eye-catching style, Nana’s bright future is undeniable.

This event is FREE of cost. So come down and join Nana Kitade for an evening of fun! If anyone has ANY questions, please email me @ matsumoto_hide_nani@yahoo.com. I hope to see you all there!

Little Intorduction.

Hey everyone, I just came across this community and think it's fantastic.I'm 17, almost 18, and I live right outside of the Boston area. I love going into Boston. Anyway, i am currently learning Japanese and getting fluent in it day by day. Love anime, but don't think that's my only reason here. I love the culture of Japan as well as ohter countries. I think Japanese is one of the most beautiful sounding languages in the world and the music and lyrics that country produces is fantastic. Anyway, I'm always willing to talk about or befriend anyone who loves this wondeful country, so add me if you'd like. Time to get ready for school, it's 5:31 am. Later.

japan meets jazz

If anyone's interested, there's going to be a jazz concert at Wellesley College tomorrow (Saturday) evening. The performers are a jazz trio -- consisting of pianist, bassist, and percussionist -- and the pianist is a very well-known Japanese jazz pianist/composer Makoto Takenaka. It should be especially cool because they will be playing jazz arrangements of traditional Japanese pieces (like 'sakura') as well as a few classical and Eastern European folk songs.

The concert is also totally free~ :D

There's more information about the event here. Thank you!

ANTIFEMINISM x HAGAKURE Coupling Tour 2007 in America: Message from Kenzi & Kaya!

>> HAGAKURE is a Visual Kei band created by Kaya that skillfully expresses the essense of Japanese tradition and style. Its theme, based on "Happiness" and a blend of Japanese theater and poetry, charms and mesmerizes the audience. Even those who belong to the darkest side of the Visual Kei world would be receptive to the universal message of Hagakure's songs.
The band is composed of Kaya, the lead vocalist, along with other support members: thus the band keeps evolving. Kaya is definitely the foundation of Hagakure but he believes the support members, fans, audience, and staff are an integral part of Hagakure because of their genuine support. They have started touring outside Japan in 2006 and Hagakure's adventure has just begun.

>>ANTI FEMINISM is led by KENZI, the lead vocal (CEO of Anarchist Records, Leader and Drummer of THE DEAD POP STARS) who is one of the most charismatic artists in the world of Visual Kei. The concept of ANTI FEMINISM is based on "Radical Ideas" and has captured a large audience with many outrageous stunts often performed on stage. The singer is known to set his hand on fire, break neon lights with his head, cut himself with the shards on his stomach and arms, fling vegetables with a baseball bat, and tumble around on a pile of thumbtacks.

The band has made the Japanese Visual Kei scene shiver with their unique, out of control style. They went as far as burning the head of a dead pig on stage. There are no permanent band members (aka "anti shockers") besides KENZI. Up to this day, more than 800 Visual Kei musicians have taken part in the ANTI FEMINISM adventure throughout Japan. In 2007, this extreme band will begin its conquest of the world!
